UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.— It’s Blue-White football game weekend at Penn State, but some students are looking forward to a different type of game coming to State College.
The Theme Park Engineering Group has created Hasty Escape Games, which will be a weekend of riddle-solving and clue-searching to escape various themed rooms before time runs out. The event will be held from April 21-24 in room 215 at the Boucke Building.
The escape rooms will offer two themes, one titled “Murder, Madness & Mystery” and the second one will be “Get Out or Dropout: Escape the Study Room.” Teams will have an hour to solve their way out of the room by uncovering various clues and hints.
William Worrall, a second-year and project co-leader says the escape room experience is different from the club's annual Haunted House project that's hosted during the month of October.
“It's definitely something guests might have a lot of fun being involved in,” Worrall said. “It's more of a group activity for them to work with each other on trying to escape rather than just walking through a haunted house and experiencing it.”
The escape rooms can have between 4 and 10 people participate at $4.99 per person. Pre-registration is required.
Noah Schmitt, a fifth-year and the other project co-leader for the escape rooms gave insight as to why the group decided to host the event during the weekend of the Blue-White Football game.
“For an escape room, you have to find a time when a lot of people are around,” Schmitt said. “A lot of people have families, and they want to do something together, so it’s definitely a great weekend for it.”
If the escape rooms succeed, it might become a regular event for TPEG.
“I really think this project is going to be a success and that it will be a great spring project to continue in the future that keeps getting better and better as time goes on,” Schmitt said.
